Social Ministry Goal - To enable members of our congregation
to emulate the servant examples of Jesus Christ by performing
acts of mercy, justice and love in our community and the world.
Our social ministry committee coordinates the following activities:
Thurman-Brisben Homeless Shelter - RLC donates food items, cooks
and serves the meals.
Red Cross Blood Drive - Members donate much needed blood, and
volunteer to help by donating healthy snacks and assisting as
needed.
Hope House for battered women and children in Fredericksburg
- We donate household items twice a year (February and October)
to help residents during their stay, and in establishing their
own home.
Fredericksburg School Dressing Days - Each August approximately
500 children of school age are outfitted with new and good used
clothing in preparation for the opening of city and county schools.
This is organized through Interfaith Community Council and involves
several local and downtown churches.
Emergency Funds - A program designed in conjunction with L.A.R.C.
(Lutherans, Anglicans, and Roman Catholics) to help people with
urgent needs for paying critical bills, buying gasoline, and obtaining
food.
Emergency Meals - Providing evening meals to the families who
have been affected by personal crisis, like surgery, illness,
death, etc. RLC members volunteer to make meals and deliver them
to our members in need of support.
Holiday Hope Program – Provide seasonal gifts, such as Thanksgiving
baskets with food for the holiday meal, Christmas Angel Tree to
provide gifts to adopted families, and Easter baskets for underprivileged
children. RLC members help in various ways by contributing needed
items, and volunteering to help assemble and deliver these gifts.
