Establishment of a
Resurrection
The
Congregation Council has established a task force to develop a Mission
Endowment Fund for Resurrection. An Endowment Fund is a perpetual fund from
which only earnings are distributed. Churches
have found that an Endowment Fund encourages giving and is a mechanism for
receiving large, many times unanticipated, contributions. Many congregations receive at least one large
contribution. Too often there is not a
procedure in place to accept this type of contribution or a plan for using the
contribution, which may be real estate, cash, stocks, bonds, life insurance, or
other valuable holdings such as art items or historical documents.
The
purpose of the Mission Endowment Fund is to enhance the mission outreach of the
congregation. This is apart from the
general operation of the congregation.
No portion of the income generated by the Fund will be used for the
annual operating budget of the congregation unless there are extenuating
circumstances that will be spelled out in the Fund document.
The
immediate goal of the Task Force is to develop a plan for a Mission Endowment
Fund for Resurrection. The policies and
procedures of the Fund will be included in the plan which will be submitted to
the congregation for approval as a By-Law of our constitution.
If
the By-Law is approved, a committee of the congregation will be formed to
educate the congregation about the Fund, to motivate and encourage giving to
the Fund, set an investment policy, and to monitor the Fund for conformance to
the investment policy.
Members
of this committee may or may not be members of the task force that has been
formed to develop the Mission Endowment plan.
